Systems Monitoring

Carpathia has a portfolio of monitoring capabilities designed to support effective problem detection, diagnosis, and resolution/remediation. Our customers realize a wide range of benefits associated with service quality and increased efficiencies.

Monitoring offers the following benefits:

  • 24x7 ‘eyes and ears’ for predicting and identifying network, system and application failures
  • Identify problems before they affect performance
  • Reduce the cost in monitoring operations
  • Allow staff to focus on strategic activities versus maintaining monitoring tools in-house
  • A completely integrated toolset including event management, incident ticketing, change ticketing and asset tracking
  • Pre-defined ITIL-based operations procedures
  • ‘Rolled Up’ views of all operations data

Carpathia monitors hardware and operating systems for events that critically affect the system’s ability to provide service. This is performed by agents that create alerts when specific system or application metrics exceed a predefined threshold. Reactive monitoring is also performed by actively testing basic Internet protocols like HTTP and HTTPS.

The monitoring service provides an end-to-end view of the entire application environment to represent a holistic approach. The combination of internal host-based and external internet-based monitoring, combined with inventory management, change management and incident management provides customers with a comprehensive view.

Included:

  • Network – Native SNMP technology in critical network elements provides fault-based traps coupled with performance monitoring to identify bottlenecks before they affect application performance.
  • Server – using syslog for Unix, ICMP monitoring, NT Event logs, SNMP traps, and other platform specific elements to identify hardware and server level events.
  • Operating System – monitors critical system resource metrics across the operating system to identify resource drains and potential bottlenecks that might impact the application environment.
